Demos serve as valuable evidence for reporting players or admins in Team Fortress 2 (TF2), but what about those instances when you miss recording a crucial moment? That's where enabling automatic demo recording comes in handy. This feature has minimal impact on performance and automates the entire demo recording process, saving the demos in your tf/demos folder. This guide will walk you through the steps to enable automatic demo recording in TF2.

Step 1: Access the Advanced Settings: To access the advanced settings, you can follow one of two methods:
  • Method 1: From the main screen, locate the advanced settings. The method may vary depending on your HUD, but it will always be displayed on the main screen.
  • Method 2: Alternatively, you can access the advanced settings via the settings menu. Navigate to the multiplayer section and click on "Advanced." This will open a list of advanced settings, including demo support.
Step 2: Find the Demo Support Setting: Scroll down within the advanced settings until you find the "Demo Support" section.

Step 3: Change the Recording Mode: In the Demo Support section, you will find the recording mode setting. By default, it is set to "Manual." You need to change this setting.

Step 4: Enable Automatic Demo Recording: Click on the recording mode setting and select "Automatic" from the options. Confirm the selection by clicking "OK." If done correctly, you will hear a sound resembling a crank when joining a server, indicating that demos are now being automatically recorded.

Step 5: Accessing Recorded Demos: Once the automatic demo recording is enabled, TF2 will save the recorded demos in the tf/demos folder within your game directory. You can access these demos later for playback, reporting, or editing purposes.

Step 6: Play Demo Files: Open the console and input "demoui". Next, you'll need to "Load" a demo file from the tf/demo folder. Simply use the built-in Windows Explorer to locate the dem file, and it will automatically load and start playing once you open the file.

Congratulations! You have successfully enabled automatic demo recording in TF2. This feature will automate the demo recording process, ensuring you capture important moments without delay. Remember to check the tf/demos folder in your game directory for the saved demos.
